A Celebration without a Party?

In today's consumer world where everyone thinks bigger is better, some baby's first birthday parties are getting way out of control. Some parents are spending a small fortune and entertaining a huge guest list for their baby's first birthday because they think that's what is expected of them as proud parents.

I recently saw a great post on a mommy forum by a mom who says when her kids are little ones, instead of a formal party they get a fun day with family. For their baby's 1st and 2nd birthdays, instead of a party they may go to the zoo, the park, or the Science Discovery place.

Of course, no formal party doesn't have to mean no cake and no presents. Mom and Dad still supply a yummy birthday cake and a fun gift to open. They still celebrate birthdays, just without the invitations, extra guests, etc.

We threw a party for our first child for her 1st birthday. Luckily I had it at home. She ended up getting over stimulated, had a meltdown, and I had to put her down for a nap early. When looking to celebrate your baby's first birthday, consider you child's temperment and what is comfortable for your family. A formal party may not be what's best for your little one.
